34. Aggradational Landforms of Streams

Oxbow Lake in Edmonton, Alberta

Oxbow

Meander Rivers are in curve form, and oxbow lake is an elongate process to form. Sometimes when the meander neck is sharp enough to bend and create strong erosion, cutoff may occur and the deposition fills until the meander neck dries out. Thus, an oxbow lake (or slough) forms. From the larch land fieldtrip, we saw a meander neck that was already cutoff and dried out while the other side contains an oxbow lake.
