Climate Classification
Köppen classification system was invented by a Swiss botanist Alphonse de Candolle in 1874, in which he named after Wladimir Köppen who classified climates with plants.
Other influential factors on regional climates:
- Latitude
- High pressure vs. low pressure zones
- Heat exchange from ocean currents
- Altitude
- Local winds
- Land and sea distribution
- Topography of landforms
With these factors, Köppen system brings forth the following classifications:
- Tropical (A)
- Dry/Arid (B)
- Mesothermal (C)
- Microthermal (D)
- Polar (E)
- Highland (F)
