23. Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rocks

Metamorphic Rocks

As we know that metamorphic rocks are modified (or altered) by heat and pressure and in Greek’s definition metamorphic means ‘change’ by which either igneous or sedimentary rocks can become metamorphic rocks through melting. During contact metamorphosis, a sheet of lava flows out over the surface and cause rock to melt and change. Examples of metamorphic rocks can include quartzite (made of quartz grains and silia), marble (from limestone), slate (from shale), and gneiss (from granite). Marbles are quite common especially in furniture, they are actually the metamorphosed from limestone.
